Rwenzori Theluji Festival returns; preparations in high gear
The festival will involve a series of activities.
Kasese: The National Chairperson for the Organizing Committee of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival, Charles Mugisa Police, has requested the entire media fraternity in Kasese district and the Rwenzori sub-region at large to join the campaign of popularizing and publishing the event massively, Obed Kithende writes.
Slated for August 24, the Rwenzori Theluji Festival is an annual tourism festival that is characterized by a number of activities, including Miss Tourism, the Cultural and Trade Expo, and Explore Kasese, among others.
Speaking to this publication, Mr. Mugisa, who says that the festival will involve a series of activities, says that it needs intensive advertisement by all stakeholders in the media fraternity, including journalists, social media bloggers, tik-tokkers, and other media influencers, to advertise the event on their platforms.
Now, Mugisa is requesting the media personalities to start writing about the most beautiful, unique tourists’ attractions that one can never find elsewhere in the world, accompanied by the harsh tag Destination Kasese.
He described Kasese district as the richest, blessed with a variety of natural resources from the waters, the national parks, minerals, and the mountains, coupled with the most hospitable communities with unique, diverse cultures, with three-quarters of the tribes in Uganda residing in Kasese district.
Mugisa named the most tourist attractions in Kasese district: the Rwenzori Mountains, Mt. Rwenzori National Park, the Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Kazinga Channel, the Equator Point, hot springs, the Katwe Kabatooro area, the landing sites, the Mubuku Irrigation Scheme, and mining.
He therefore appealed to all stakeholders in the district, including politicians and religious and cultural leaders, to jointly help the organizers of the event by popularizing it since it will benefit a larger population in Kasese district.
In a separate interview, Mr. Benson Kule Baritazale, the Board Chairperson of the Kasese Tourism Investors Forum -KTIF, the official organizers of the Rwenzori Theluji Festival, told ugreports.co.ug that the festival was in line with their vision to develop a world-class, sustainable, and attractive tourism destination.
He said that through the Rwenzori Theluji Festival, KTIF would be able to fulfill its mission of creating a profitable and inclusive tourism investment business that would promote high-quality products and services that meet global standards, hence promoting Kasese as the final destination for tourism in the whole world.
Meanwhile, in a similar development, the Kasese Municipal Council has decided to conduct community meetings (barazas) in the three divisions of Nyamwamba, Bulembia, and Central in order to create awareness, generate publicity, and popularize a number of key events that will be hosted in the municipality.
In a letter dated July 26, 2024, written by the Office of the Town Clerk-Kasese Municipality to the Senior Assistant Town Clerks of Nyamwamba, Bulembia, and Central, it was stated that the divisions, together with security organs, conduct community barazas to mobilize masses to participate in general cleaning of the town and attend the events.
According to the letter, in the recent joint security meeting between the Central and Nyamwamba divisions, it was observed that sanitation and hygiene in town were still lacking, street children were on the rise, hotels and guest houses were substandard, and this negatively impacted tourism.
