Namisindwa seeks government aid for UWA operation victims, disaster-hit households

The engagement is expected to provide leaders with an opportunity to raise regional concerns, including disaster response and the need for government assistance to affected communities.

Namisindwa: Namisindwa District Local Government has appealed to the Office of the Prime Minister for emergency assistance for households affected by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) operations near the national park, as well as those hit by windstorms, landslides and mudslides.

In a letter dated October 13, 2026, addressed to the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Namisindwa District LC5 Chairperson Emma Bwayo requested humanitarian support to help affected families recover from their losses and return to normal life.

Bwayo said residents living near the national park in Mukoto, Luwa Town Council, Bupoto Sub-county and Tsekululu Sub-county had suffered crop and property losses following an operation by UWA officials.

He also highlighted the district’s vulnerability to natural disasters, particularly landslides and mudslides, which frequently leave communities in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The district further reported that windstorms had affected Buwambwa Sub-county, particularly Buwambwa and Bumayayo parishes, leaving several households in need of relief.

Bwayo said the district was seeking food and non-food items to help affected families meet their immediate needs and begin rebuilding their lives.

He commended the Office of the Prime Minister for its previous timely responses to disasters in Namisindwa, expressing hope that the latest request would receive a positive response.

The letter was received by the Office of the Prime Minister on October 15, 2026, for further action.

Bugisu leaders to meet Prime Minister

The appeal comes ahead of a planned meeting between Bugisu regional leaders and the Prime Minister on October 20, 2026.

The meeting is expected to bring together Members of Parliament, district LC5 chairpersons, Resident District Commissioners and Chief Administrative Officers from the Bugisu region.

The engagement is expected to provide leaders with an opportunity to raise regional concerns, including disaster response and the need for government assistance to affected communities.

Namisindwa District is hoping for a timely intervention to support households facing crop losses, property destruction and other challenges arising from UWA operations and natural disasters.
