Namisindwa: Namisindwa District has been selected to host the national commemoration of World Contraception Day 2026, with the main event scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at Magale Town Council Ground.
The event will be held under the theme, “A Choice for All, Agency, Intention, Access.”
Namisindwa Woman Member of Parliament Khalayi Peace, who also serves on the Parliamentary Committee on Health, says the district was selected because of its high prevalence of teenage motherhood.
She says teenage motherhood in Namisindwa stands at 27 percent, above the national rate of 22 percent.
“We encourage the public to embrace this event and participate in large numbers,” Khalayi said.
She added that the Minister of Health is expected to attend the event as the Guest of Honour.
Meanwhile, Namisindwa District Chairman Emma Bwayo says the district has held a series of preparatory meetings to ensure the successful hosting of the national event.
Bwayo described the opportunity as an honour for the district, saying it will also provide a platform to lobby government for better healthcare services.
“This is an opportunity for us to lobby for the upgrading of our health facilities, a district ambulance and improved healthcare services,” Bwayo said.
He called upon residents, health workers, community leaders and other stakeholders to turn up in large numbers and participate in the commemoration.
The event is expected to bring together health officials, leaders, young people and other stakeholders to raise awareness about contraception and reproductive health services.
