Prison officer dies in fatal motorcycle crash in Buliisa

Buliisa: A prison officer has died in a fatal motorcycle crash in Buliisa District, with police attributing the accident to suspected over-speeding.
The deceased has been identified as Okidi Patrick, the Officer in Charge of Waiga Prison.
Okidi reportedly died on the spot after the motorcycle he was riding, registration number UG 0414U, crashed at about 11 p.m. on Monday night.
Police in Albertine North say Okidi was riding home from Buliisa Trading Centre when the crash occurred.
His body was taken to Buliisa Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Speaking to this news portal, Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash,” Mugisa said.
Mugisa urged motorists and other road users to observe traffic regulations, warning against over-speeding, drink-driving and riding without helmets.
He said preliminary police intelligence indicates that over-speeding and riding under the influence of alcohol are among the leading causes of road crashes in the region.
Police have particularly urged motorcycle riders travelling at night to exercise extra caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life.
The incident comes barely a week after a seven-year-old girl was knocked dead along the Biiso–Hoima Road in Kihungya Sub-county, Buliisa District.
The deceased, Immaculate Ayomrwoth, was knocked at about 7:30 a.m. at Kihungya Trading Centre by a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number UA 507DT, reportedly driven by Patrick Kashaija from Buliisa towards Hoima.
Mugisa said the child died at the scene following the crash.
“The child died on the spot following the crash. The vehicle was impounded and the driver arrested before both were taken to Biiso Police Station as investigations continue,” Mugisa said.
Police conducted a post-mortem examination before the body was handed over to the family for burial. The case was registered under SD Reference 11/07/08/2026.
