Masindi leaders challenged to prioritize service delivery, unity
“Stop internal fights; they make our hearts rot. The life of the people is inside, not outside,” Bishop Kugonza said.
Masindi: Residents and leaders in Masindi Municipality have been urged to embrace unity and prioritize service delivery as a key driver of the municipality’s development.
The call was made by the Bishop of Masindi Kitara Diocese, Rt. Rev. Joshua Kugonza, during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected municipal mayor and councillors held at Masindi Booma Grounds.
The ceremony was presided over by Gumtwero J. Olal, the Chief Magistrate Masindi who administered the oath of office to Mayor Rogers Amanyire and the councillors.
Bishop Kugonza emphasized that cooperation among leaders is essential for effective service delivery, warning that divisions and internal conflicts among leaders only derail development efforts.
He urged the newly sworn-in leaders to work together in the fight against poverty and corruption, noting that the electorate entrusted them with leadership and expects improved services throughout their five-year term.
The bishop also cautioned leaders against engaging in internal wrangles and opposing government development programmes, saying such conflicts undermine service delivery.
“Stop internal fights; they make our hearts rot. The life of the people is inside, not outside,” Bishop Kugonza said.
He further appealed to residents to support the new leadership in order to foster the municipality’s growth and development.
In his remarks, Mayor Amanyire called for closer cooperation between political leaders and technocrats, saying his administration is committed to serving the people of Masindi Municipality.
While handing over the instruments of power, Masindi Municipal Town Clerk Paul Omoko urged the mayor to use the municipal stamp responsibly and in the best interests of residents.
Omoko also pledged continued collaboration between technocrats and political leaders to ensure the smooth implementation of council resolutions and development programmes.
During the ceremony, Mayor Amanyire appointed Aisha Nakamya as Deputy Mayor. Meanwhile, Betty Kyomuhendo was elected Speaker after defeating Phenahasi Abigaba in a closely contested vote. Lydia Murungi was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker.
The newly constituted council is expected to steer service delivery and development initiatives in Masindi Municipality over the next five years.
