Four perish in Buliisa road crash

Preliminary police findings indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hiace allegedly left Biiso stage at high speed without switching on headlights.

Buliisa: Police in the Albertine North Region have launched investigations into a fatal road crash that claimed four lives along the Hoima–Biiso–Wanseko road in Buliisa District.

The accident occurred on Monday, May 18, 2026, at about 7:45 PM near Kaiza Hotel in Kigungu Cell, Biiso Town Council.

The crash involved an Isuzu Forward truck registration number UBD 065Q, blue in colour, and a white Toyota Hiace registration number UA 336BX.

According to the Albertine North Regional Police Commander, Damalie Nachuha, the deceased have been identified as Musafari Kasangaki, 43, Abrahaman Mwesigwa, 30, Diana Namale, 30, and another victim only identified as Abudallah.

The survivors were identified as Tumusiime, 38, Edrine Muhumuza, 30, Ronnie Katusabe, 37, Rena Katusiime, 28, and Peter Owachi, 36.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hiace allegedly left Biiso stage at high speed without switching on headlights. After moving about 100 metres, the vehicle reportedly rammed into the stationary Isuzu Forward truck which had developed a mechanical problem.

Police visited the scene and transported the bodies to Biiso Health Centre IV mortuary, while the injured victims were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
