Kiryandongo hospital SACCO donates to patients

Records indicate that by December 2025, the SACCO had disbursed over Shs358 million in loans, highlighting its growing impact among members.

Kiryandongo: Kiryandongo Hospital SACCO has donated assorted items to patients admitted at Kiryandongo General Hospital as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting those in care.

The donation was made on Good Friday as a gesture of giving back to the community and showing solidarity with patients during the Easter period.

Speaking to journalists, the SACCO Chairperson, Esther Nkuba, said the items were procured using profits generated from loans issued to members over the past year.

“We felt it was important to share with the community, especially patients who are in need during this period,” Nkuba said.

In addition to supporting patients, Nkuba revealed that the SACCO also contributed Shs200,000 to Kiryandongo COU Primary School to support the renovation of a classroom block.

“We have also donated Shs200,000 to Kiryandongo COU Primary School towards the renovation of their classroom block,” she added.

Nkuba noted that the SACCO, established in 2020, was formed to improve the welfare of health workers. She called upon more people to join and invest in the SACCO to strengthen its financial base and expand its services.

The SACCO Secretary, Fanirwoth Charlotte, explained that members seeking loans of two million shillings and above are required to present sureties as part of the lending policy.

Meanwhile, Hadijah Joweriya, a member of the SACCO, said the initiative has significantly benefited health workers by enabling them to access affordable loans, especially during times of financial hardship.

Meanwhile, Residents of Kiryandongo District have been urged to form Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) to enable them to benefit from government programs.

The call was made by the Kiryandongo District Commercial Officer, Sam Kakumba, while training members of Mboira Women Farmers Association.

Kakumba emphasized that government support, including seed capital and grants, is mainly channeled through organized groups such as SACCOs.

He further warned against reliance on bank loans with high interest rates, noting that many people have lost property due to failure to repay such loans.

Kakumba explained that SACCO members have greater control over their finances, including setting manageable interest rates among themselves.

Speaking to the media, the Kibanda South Member of Parliament, Hon. Karubanga Jacob Atenyi, commended district officials for organizing the training.

He revealed that members of the association, largely composed of vulnerable single mothers, had reached out to his office for support.

He added that although the group started small, it has now grown to over 300 members and is in the process of registering as a SACCO.

Arikeri Agnes, an associate member said the group was formed by single mothers facing various challenges.

She noted that although they initially had over 500 members, some dropped out along the way.

Serina Pachuto, another member, said the group has helped her support her grandchildren’s education.
