Three arrested for attempting to sneak firearm into Hoima hospital

Hoima: Albertine Regional Police have identified three suspects who were intercepted by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) while attempting to sneak a firearm into Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
The Albertine South Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, identified the suspects as Tumwine Joshua, a motorcycle rider operating registration number UEL 032L, who was transporting Tumwesigye Derick and Mugabi Rodgers.
SP Hakiza said security had prior intelligence about the suspects, leading to their arrest as they attempted to enter the hospital premises while in possession of a firearm.
He added that as investigations continue, police suspect the firearm may have been used in a series of robberies and killings in Fort Portal City and Hoima City.
According to Hakiza, a magazine loaded with bullets and pangas were also recovered from the suspects. The trio is currently detained at Hoima Central Police Station as investigations continue to establish the origin of the firearm.
Meanwhile, Hoima Regional Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ibrahim Bwaga, said the deployment of UPDF personnel at the facility has helped curb theft and other security threats, including those posed by suspected rebels.
Hoima City Resident City Commissioner, Badru Mugabi, commended the UPDF for intercepting the suspected gunmen, noting that they could have caused havoc at the hospital. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
