Bushenyi Sets the Pace in HIV/AIDS Awareness with Empumo Marathon Led by Hon. Mawanda

BUSHENYI Hon. Mawanda Maranga Michael, the Igara East County Member of Parliament and Director of Mobilisation for the Patriotic League of Uganda, is hitting the ground running quite literally at the Empumo Marathon held at Kizinda Playgrounds in Bushenyi District.

The marathon, buzzing with energy and community spirit, comes at a critical moment as Uganda prepares to mark World AIDS Day on December 1st, 2025.

This year, the national celebrations will take place right in the heart of Bushenyi, making the district a focal point for the country’s renewed fight against HIV/AIDS.

Hon. Mawanda’s active participation symbolizes a powerful message: that leaders must stand at the forefront of social transformation.

As runners of all ages took to the track, the event doubled as a rallying call to “part ways” with HIV/AIDS urging citizens to embrace prevention, testing, treatment, and awareness.

Residents say the presence of national leaders has ignited fresh hope and unity in the region. With music, cheers, and banners brightening the Kizinda Playgrounds, the Empumo Marathon has become more than a sporting event; it is a movement of solidarity as the nation edges toward a future free from HIV/AIDS.

As Uganda steps into World AIDS Day tomorrow, Bushenyi stands ready energized, informed, and determined.
