Masindi NRM party members urged to spearhead campaign for President Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to begin his campaign trail in the Western Region on November 24th, and will hold his Masindi rally on December 10th.

Masindi:  Members and elders of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Masindi District have been urged to spearhead and champion the campaign for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The call was made by Darius Nandinda, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Masindi, during a meeting with NRM elders held at the RDC’s gardens recently. The meeting focused on preparations for hosting the president during his campaign trail in Masindi District and the wider Bunyoro region.

Nandinda urged party members to begin campaigning for President Museveni within their own households and neighbourhoods, stressing that the district’s target is to deliver 99% of the vote for the NRM presidential candidate.

He also encouraged party elders to guide their children into productive work, noting that many unemployed youths were previously involved in riots and demonstrations.

Nandinda revealed that he has been consulting key party leaders and government officials including the Minister of State for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr. Balaam Barugahara, Members of Parliament, and other stakeholders on how best to prepare for the president’s visit. Museveni is expected to spend the night at the State Lodge Masindi during his tour.

Nandinda rallied members to actively support the president, describing Museveni as “a gift to the country” and a champion of wealth creation and national development.

Yusuf Nyamayarwo, the Masindi Municipal Councillor representing the elderly, urged fellow elders not to be swayed by opposition influence but to remember the progress they attribute to the NRM government.

Charles Mugyemano Kaloli encouraged elders to champion the president’s campaign, noting that they have nurtured the party from its early days. He pledged to ensure his own children support the ruling party, saying it is better for the party to fall “when they are dead” rather than see their families support parties that, he claimed, lack clear national ideologies.

Kanaginagi Ateenyi Rutindo, an NRM cadre from Bokwe Village, appealed to the RDC to ensure that the elders get a chance to meet President Museveni and share the challenges facing their communities, given that he will be resting at the state lodge after the rallies.

In response, RDC Nandinda said he would convene a meeting with area MPs, Minister Balaam, and selected party elders to compile a memorandum of concerns to be presented to the president. The document will be read by Kabakumba Labwoni Masiko, the district NRM chairperson.

John Karuhanga, the PLU Coordinator for Masindi District, clarified that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) is not fighting the government but is a pressure group committed to eliminating opposition influence and mobilising support for the president. He called for continued unity and support for the NRM even after the elections.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to begin his campaign trail in the Western Region on November 24th, and will hold his Masindi rally on December 10th.
