3,360 passion fruit seedlings delivered to Apopong farmers in Bukedea
“We want to thank the government, and in particular the President, for giving us this great support. We have been struggling to start on our own, but now we hope to earn an income,” said Odeke.

Bukedea: The Office of the President, under its Poverty Alleviation Programme, has delivered a total of 3,360 passion fruit seedlings to farmers in Apopong Parish, Kolir Sub-county, Bukedea District.
The delivery, which took place on Wednesday, was witnessed by Mr. William Wilberforce Tukei, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bukedea. The seedlings are expected to benefit 45 model farmers in the area.
Mr. Tukei commended the initiative, saying it aligns with the government’s efforts to boost household incomes through various programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Wealth Creation Programme (WEP).
“Today we have received the passion fruit seedlings. A kilo of passion fruits goes for about five thousand shillings. I believe by the time we harvest, we shall have money in our pockets,” said Tukei.
Ms. Hellen Akello Ekumu, the Private Secretary to the President, explained that the passion fruit project is particularly aimed at empowering the youth.
“This project was lobbied by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, with the aim of helping people move out of the poverty line,” Ms. Akello stated.
Local farmers, led by Mr. Joseph Odeke, expressed gratitude to the government for the support.
“We want to thank the government, and in particular the President, for giving us this great support. We have been struggling to start on our own, but now we hope to earn an income,” said Odeke.
Officials noted that the project is being implemented as a pilot phase in Apopong Parish before it is rolled out to other parts of Bukedea District.
