Relief as Buliisa community gets pre-school
“We want this school to be fully embraced and supported by the community so that it continues to benefit generations to come,” he said.

Buliisa: There was excitement and relief in Mubako Village, Ngwedo Subcounty, Buliisa District, as the Rotary Club of Maya, in partnership with the Arizona Community Foundation, officially handed over God’s Will Pre-School to the local community on Thursday.
The new school was constructed to address the challenges faced by young children who previously had to walk 7 kilometers to the nearest primary school, Para Primary School, while risking encounters with wild animals from the nearby Murchison Falls National Park.
The project, which began in March, took six months to complete and was commissioned on Thursday by Yusuf Kigoya, the founder and president of the Rotary Club of Maya.
Kenneth Kasule, the Programs Manager at the Rotary Club of Maya, said the construction cost exceeded UGX 200 million, covering the purchase of land, construction of classrooms, and provision of furniture.
“The school will greatly improve access to early childhood education for children in Mubako and surrounding communities,” Kasule stated.
Patrick Iguru, the head teacher of God’s Will Pre-School, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club and partners, explaining that the school was initiated by parents who had been teaching their children under trees for the past three years.
Richard Ocirichan, LC1 chairperson of Mubako Village, noted that due to the long distance to the nearest school, some children were starting school late at around 10 years of age.
“This new school will give our children a chance to start learning at the right age and in a safer environment,” Ocirichan said.
Kennedy Oringi, LCIII Chairperson of Ngwedo Subcounty, pledged to integrate the new pre-school into the subcounty’s budget to ensure its sustainability.
Yusuf Kigoya emphasized the importance of community ownership in ensuring the success and longevity of the school.
“We want this school to be fully embraced and supported by the community so that it continues to benefit generations to come,” he said.
