Chope mourns Raila Amolo Odinga

“His death is a heavy blow to the entire Luo fraternity across East and Central Africa.”

Kiryandongo: The Paluo (Chope) Chiefdom in western Uganda has joined the rest of Africa and the world in mourning the passing of Raila Amolo Odinga, the veteran Kenyan opposition leader and prominent statesman.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Chiefdom Prime Minister (Dabila), Mr. Kisembo Denis Atwooki, at the Chope Cultural Headquarters in Katulikire, Kichwabugingo Sub County, Kiryandongo District.

“Today we are mourning the passing of one of our very own blood, a descendant of the great Luo ancestors with whom we share a common ancestry,” said Mr. Kisembo.

“His death is a heavy blow to the entire Luo fraternity across East and Central Africa.”

His Royal Highness (Dabanda) Odong David Ateenyi, the Chope Chief, expressed deep sorrow over Odinga’s death, praising his lifelong commitment to unity, democracy, constitutional development, and good governance across the African continent.

Raila Odinga, aged 80, was a towering figure in Kenyan and East African politics, known for his unwavering dedication to democratic reforms and advocacy for civic and political freedoms. He inspired generations across the region through his leadership and vision for a just society.

His passing marks the end of an era for many who looked to him for political guidance, unity, and inspiration on key governance issues in Africa.
