Three remanded over suspected poaching in Kagadi
They have been remanded until October 16, 2025, when the case will return for further hearing.
Kagadi: The Kagadi Grade One Magistrate’s Court has this afternoon remanded three men to Mambugu Prison on charges related to illegal poaching.
Presided over by Chief Magistrate Namayanja Nazifah of the Kibale Magistracy, the court heard that the accused, John Magezi, Peterson Tusiime, and Nelson Asaba, all residents of Rutoma Village in Kagadi District were arrested last month on allegations of killing a hippopotamus.
Testifying in court, Boas Tigaryoma, an officer from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) stationed at Kanara Ranger Post in Ntoroko District, stated that UWA received tips from whistleblowers about suspected poaching in Kanara and parts of Muzizi.
A subsequent joint operation led to the suspects’ arrest after they were allegedly found in possession of 700 kilograms of meat, believed to be from a hippopotamus.
All three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. They have been remanded until October 16, 2025, when the case will return for further hearing.
