“I will use my story to inspire young people and support women in improving household incomes,” she said.

Masindi: The Electoral Commission has confirmed the nomination of six candidates to contest for the position of Mayor of Masindi Municipality in the upcoming elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, Abubakari Lubwama, the Assistant Returning Officer for Masindi, revealed that the nominated group includes four men and two women. He described the nomination exercise as smooth, with a commendable turnout of aspirants.

However, one individual was disqualified from the race for failing to meet the nomination requirements.

Lubwama noted that attention will now shift to the nomination of LC3 chairpersons and their councillors, which will take place at respective sub-counties and divisions.

‘’Those in the municipality will be nominated at the electoral commission head office, those in Buruli County will be nominated at Mirya sub county headquarters while those in Bujenje will be nominated at Kabango playground,’’ he asserted.

The exercise will run from Thursday, September 11th to 24th, 2025. Nomination of Members of Parliament is expected to follow in October.

Among those nominated for the Masindi Municipal Mayor seat are; Isaac Bongomin on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket, Rogers Amanyire on National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket while those on Independent tickets are; Ronald Businge Kyomuhendo, the incumbent mayor, Milly Mateba and Hassina Nakalema and Peter Wobusobozi.

In a related development, Robert Akugizibwe, also known as Robert and Sons, was nominated under the NRM ticket to contest for Western Ward Councillor in Central Division, Masindi Municipal Council.

Following his nomination, Akugizibwe reaffirmed his commitment to a leadership style focused on championing the needs of the local population.

“I will not change my approach. I will continue advocating for improved services across all sectors and mobilize other councillors to do the same,” he said.

He added that he is “not new, but a tested and serving leader who should not be doubted.”

Also nominated was Hassina Nakalema, a resident of Kikwanana Cell in Nyangahya Division. Running as an independent candidate, Nakalema pledged to focus on empowering women’s groups, supporting youth development, and promoting unity among political players.

Drawing from her own experience of rising from orphanhood to community leadership, she emphasized her commitment to uplifting the vulnerable.

“I will use my story to inspire young people and support women in improving household incomes,” she said.

Nakalema said she chose a table as her campaign symbol to symbolize dialogue and peaceful coexistence, stating that all contentious issues should be resolved through mutual understanding.
