URA, police impound vehicle carrying stolen cattle in Buliisa

Upon inspection, two cows were found inside the vehicle one alive and one dead.

Buliisa: Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials, in collaboration with the Police in Buliisa District, have impounded a vehicle allegedly transporting stolen cattle.

The vehicle, a Toyota registration number UAZ 808K, was intercepted late Monday night while ferrying two cows suspected to have been stolen from Buliisa and destined for Hoima District.

According to Joram Musime, the URA officer in charge of operations in Biiso, the vehicle was intercepted at around 9:00 PM in Kapapi Trading Centre along the Biiso–Hoima road during a routine night patrol.

“During our patrol, we spotted a suspicious vehicle moving at night around 9PM. We began trailing it because we suspected it was transporting smuggled goods,” Musime said.

He added that the vehicle failed to stop at a URA checkpoint located between Kihungya Sub-county and Kapapi, prompting officers to give chase. Upon being intercepted, both the driver and another occupant abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

“They abandoned the vehicle and escaped. We immediately notified the Police in Biiso, who responded swiftly,” Musime added.

Upon inspection, two cows were found inside the vehicle one alive and one dead. The vehicle has since been towed and is currently parked at the Biiso Police Station.

Efforts to get a comment from the Police were unsuccessful by press time.
