Wobusobozi nominated for Masindi District Chairman seat as independent candidate

He urged all aspirants to report early to avoid missing out due to the limited three-day nomination window.

Masindi: The Electoral Commission has officially nominated Patrick Wobusobozi as an independent candidate for the Masindi District Chairperson seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Wobusobozi’s nomination was confirmed on Thursday, September 4, by the district returning officer, Gastervus Kakaire, at the Masindi Electoral Commission offices.

Kakaire stated that Wobusobozi had successfully fulfilled all the nomination requirements, including gathering the necessary endorsement signatures, and was therefore declared a duly nominated candidate.

Speaking after his nomination, Wobusobozi described the moment as a “major milestone” in his political journey. He expressed gratitude to his supporters, especially those who helped him by appending signatures on his nomination forms.

“This nomination marks a turning point in our journey to bring the change Masindi district needs,” said Wobusobozi. “I am here to reclaim victory in the general elections after being unfairly treated in the NRM primaries.”

Wobusobozi, who opted to run as an independent, claimed he was cheated during the NRM party primaries, prompting him to pursue the seat outside the party structure.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has so far nominated 30 candidates by Thursday, September 4, 2025, for various district-level positions. The nominations, which began on Wednesday, September 3, will close on Friday, September 5.

Abu-Bakr Lubwama, the assistant returning officer for Masindi district, confirmed that the nomination process had commenced smoothly, and more candidates were still being received.

He urged all aspirants to report early to avoid missing out due to the limited three-day nomination window.

Lubwama also noted that the picking of nomination forms for Local Council positions at both municipal and sub-county levels is still ongoing.

Ronald Bantu, a journalist with Kings FM Masindi, will contest for the District Councilor seat representing Central Division.

Running as an independent, Bantu said he aims to serve all residents regardless of party affiliation. Using a radio as his symbol, he pledged to supervise government programs and support vulnerable community members.

Afusa Karungi, contesting on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for District Female Councilor representing Central Division, announced she would soon unveil her campaign program.

Karungi defected from the ruling NRM party, arguing that opposition voices are more likely to be heard by the government.

Muzamil Bagire, also vying for Direct Elected Councilor representing Central Division, said his focus would be on improving service delivery and youth empowerment. “The journey has just begun,” he remarked.

Darius Nandinda, the Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), cautioned candidates against organizing campaign processions in busy commercial areas.

He emphasized that all aspirants must adhere strictly to Electoral Commission guidelines to avoid legal consequences and maintain public order.
