Bugangaizi East NRM Parliamentary flag bearer remanded over alleged assault on PM Nabbanja

Meanwhile, several political leaders and supporters who had gathered at the court described Twinamasiko's arrest and remand as a politically motivated witch-hunt.

Kibaale: The Chief Magistrate Court in Kibaale has remanded Onesmas Twinamasiko, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary flag bearer for Bugangaizi East County in Kakumiro District, to Kibaale Government Prison for allegedly assaulting Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja.

Twinamasiko appeared before Chief Magistrate Nazifer Namayanja on Wednesday, where he was formally charged with assault and causing bodily harm. The prosecution alleges that on July 17, during the announcement of NRM party primary results at the Kakumiro NRM offices, a scuffle broke out, during which Twinamasiko allegedly assaulted the Prime Minister in the presence of several party supporters.

The accused was arrested Wednesday morning at Hoima Central Police Station, where he had reportedly gone to make inquiries. He was then immediately transferred to Kibaale for arraignment.

In court, Twinamasiko denied the charges and applied for bail. His sureties included Joseph Sentayi Senkusu, the LC5 District Chairperson, Lawrence Bazara, the District Councilor for Kakindo Town Council, and Moses Twimukye, the LC3 Chairperson for Kisiita Town Council. However, the magistrate denied bail, citing the advanced age (above 55 years) of the sureties and the fact that they do not reside in the same village as the accused.

Twinamasiko has been remanded to Kibaale Government Prison until Wednesday, September 10, when he is scheduled to reappear for the hearing.

Following the court session, Kakumiro District LC5 Chairperson Joseph Sentayi strongly condemned the ongoing political infighting among district leaders, warning that such conflicts are detrimental to the district’s development.

Meanwhile, several political leaders and supporters who had gathered at the court described Twinamasiko’s arrest and remand as a politically motivated witch-hunt.
