Over 2,000 children vaccinated against malaria in Buliisa
“Parents and guardians should take part in the vaccination campaign to protect their children from this deadly disease,” Mugabe urged.
Buliisa: Health authorities in Buliisa District have confirmed that over 2,000 children under the age of two have been vaccinated against malaria as part of the ongoing national malaria vaccination campaign.
The update was provided by Mr. Robert Mugabe, the Buliisa District Health Educator, during an interview with this publication on Monday evening.
According to Mugabe, since the campaign began in May this year, a total of 2,837 children aged between six months and two years have been identified as eligible for the malaria vaccine.
This development follows the official launch of the national malaria vaccination drive in April, held in Apac District Uganda’s most malaria-affected area.
“Parents and guardians should take part in the vaccination campaign to protect their children from this deadly disease,” Mugabe urged.
He also advised the public to continue adhering to other malaria prevention measures, including; sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets, clearing bushes around homes, draining stagnant water, and closing doors and windows early in the evening.
The health official emphasizes that combining vaccination with preventive practices is essential to reducing the malaria burden in both Buliisa and across the country.
“The combination of vaccination and preventive measures is key to reducing the malaria burden in the district and across the country. Therefore, people should embrace the vaccination exercise,” Mugabe added.
