Kitgum NRM registrar arrested for alleged electoral fraud
Authorities have not yet released details on the motive or whether additional suspects may be involved.
Kitgum: A National Resistance Movement (NRM) village electoral registrar, identified as Onyango Francis, 39, has been arrested for allegedly tampering with election results during the party’s ongoing primary elections.
Onyango, who was serving as the registrar for Mede Village, Pajimo Parish, in Akwang Sub-county, was apprehended on the evening of Thursday, July 24, 2025.
According to Inspector of Police (IP) Oloya Joe, the Aswa East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Onyango was caught red-handed with forged results related to the position of Directly Elected Woman Councillor V for Akwang/Layamo Sub-county, representing Mede Village.
“A case of forgery of election results has been registered at Kitgum Central Police Station (CPS),” said IP Oloya.
The report was officially filed by Oduayi Geofrey, a police officer attached to the Electoral Desk at Kitgum CPS, prompting further investigation.
Police confirmed that exhibits were recovered at the time of Onyango’s arrest. The suspect remains in detention at Kitgum CPS as investigations continue.
