Mbale: Excitement is building among primary school pupils across Masaabaland ahead of the upcoming Bamasaaba Educational Conference, where they hope to meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The conference is being organized by His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba people, and his cabinet, with a vision to empower and mentor young learners through cultural and educational engagement.

According to Mr. Steven Masiga, spokesperson for the Bamasaaba cultural institution, learners from various schools including Jalilu Primary School and Wanyera Primary School have expressed a strong desire for the Umukuka to invite President Museveni as the guest of honor at the event.

The conference is expected to attract an estimated one million learners from both primary and secondary schools across Masaabaland, along with their parents and teachers. The gathering will serve as a platform for showcasing students’ academic progress and cultural identity before the Umukuka and government representatives.

During a recent cultural courtesy visit to schools in the region, Mr. Masiga engaged learners on the importance of education rooted in cultural values. He encouraged students to be proud of their heritage while striving for academic excellence.

The headteachers of both Jalilu and Wanyera Primary Schools, Mr. Karim Murami and Madam Milly Namataka respectively, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely effort to foster unity, discipline, and academic motivation among learners.

“We are grateful to the Umukuka and the cultural leadership for championing education. This conference will help learners interact, learn, and be mentored by elders and professionals from both Uganda and the diaspora,” said Mr. Murami.

In addition to showcasing academic work, the conference will also feature mentorship sessions from notable Bamasaaba personalities. Topics will include education, career guidance, leadership, culture, and community development.
