20 Buliisa students receive full Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships
According to program coordinators, students from Buliisa, Kikuube, Masindi, and Hoima will begin their training on July 21st.

Buliisa: A wave of relief and excitement swept through Buliisa District as 20 students were awarded full Nursing and Midwifery scholarships for a period of two and a half years under a program sponsored by TotalEnergies EP Uganda.
The students were selected from a pool of 188 applicants, all of whom had excelled in science subjects at O’ Level. The scholarship handover ceremony took place on Friday July 11, 2025 at the Buliisa District Headquarters.
The scholarships are being implemented by Winning Generation, a Kampala-based private consulting firm contracted by TotalEnergies EP Uganda to run the Nursing and Midwifery Program.
Speaking to the media, several students expressed their deep appreciation for the opportunity. “I had lost hope, but with this sponsorship, I will now be able to attain skills in midwifery and nursing,” said Yunus Katusabe, one of the beneficiaries from Bugana-Kichooke. “I urge my fellow beneficiaries to stay committed and focus on passing their exams.”
William Makandi, a parent, echoed the gratitude: “I’m financially constrained, and I had lost hope. But with support from TotalEnergies, my child will now be able to study. They are covering everything tuition, transport, pocket money, and scholastic materials.”
He further called on the beneficiaries to remain disciplined and dedicated so as to encourage continued support from the development partners.
Godfrey Muhumuza, the District Sports Officer representing the District Education Officer (DEO), described the scholarships as a milestone achievement for Buliisa.
“I urge the students to remain focused on their education and uphold discipline while at school,” he said.
The 20 Buliisa students are part of a larger group of 100 beneficiaries from oil-hosting districts—including Nwoya, Pakwach, Kikuube, Hoima, and Masindi.
Buliisa and Nwoya received 20 scholarships each as host districts. Kikuube, Hoima, Masindi, and Pakwach were each awarded 15 scholarships
The initiative is part of TotalEnergies EP Uganda’s broader strategy to promote youth inclusion and education, while also addressing critical shortages in Uganda’s healthcare workforce.
According to program coordinators, students from Buliisa, Kikuube, Masindi, and Hoima will begin their training on July 21st.
