Human rights advocate, two others attacked by mob in Zombo
The attack adds to growing concerns over rising cases of mob justice in Zombo and other parts of the West Nile Subregion.

Zombo: Bernard Ular, a renowned human rights advocate who also serves as the chairperson of the board for Okoro Coffee Growers Co-operative Union, was reportedly attacked alongside two unidentified youths by an angry mob in Lari Village, Thanga Parish, Abanga Sub-County, Zombo District.
The incident occurred on March 10, 2025, raising concerns among activists in the region.
According to reports, chaos erupted when the three individuals arrived in the area to resolve an unspecified domestic dispute.
An eyewitness recounted, “They came on a boda boda to settle a domestic matter, but the issue was complex. People grew angry and started beating them. They even abandoned their motorcycle, which was later taken to the police station in Paidha by a Good Samaritan.”
Another witness, identified only as Okumu, described the scene as chaotic. “When the mob started beating and tearing their clothes, they fled. It was a nasty scene.”
The LCIII chairperson of Abanga Sub-County, Richard Awekunimungu, confirmed the incident but refrained from providing further details. He stated that two unidentified individuals had been arrested to aid in the ongoing investigation.
“Upon receiving reports of the incident, I informed the police, who intervened and rescued the victims. Two people were arrested,” Aweku said, adding that the full details of the incident remain unclear.

In a telephone interview, Bernard Ular confirmed the attack, attributing it to what he termed as “wrong accompaniment” of the two boda boda riders who had accompanied him to the area.
He dismissed rumors that he was in a coma, assuring the public of his well-being.
