‘Abducted’ UNAA VP Muvawala found dumped in Buliisa

Images circulating on social media show Muvawala visibly weak, with torture marks.

Buliisa: Charles Bukenya Muvawala, the Vice President of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA), has been found in Western Uganda’s Buliisa District after being allegedly abducted on Wednesday.

According to Robert Kyagulanyi, the National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Muvawala was discovered on Friday in a swamp, showing signs of torture.

“I’ve just spoken with our comrade, Charles Muvawala, who was abducted after 1 a.m. on Wednesday and had been missing since,” Kyagulanyi posted on social media.

“He says his captors dumped him in a swamp in Buliisa District earlier today after many hours of torture. He is gravely shaken by the ordeal. We must all unite in fighting against the lawlessness that has come to define our country!”

Muvawala was reportedly abducted in Nakulabye, Kampala. His disappearance sparked widespread condemnation from NUP supporters and UNAA members.

Human rights groups and opposition leaders have repeatedly raised concerns over such incidents, calling on the government to ensure justice and hold perpetrators accountable.

We could not reach John Mwaule, the Buliisa District Police Commander (DPC), for confirmation, as his known phone number was unavailable by the time of publication.

However, UPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, in an interview with journalists, denied any government involvement, suggesting it could be a self-abduction due to difficulties faced by Ugandan immigrants in the U.S. following policies introduced by former President Donald Trump.
