UPU partners with 1MT to advance education, teacher training

Kampala: Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) has forged a strategic partnership with 1 Million Teachers (1MT) to enhance education through research, teaching, and collaborative initiatives.

The partnership was officially formalized during a visit by 1MT Co-Founder Hakeem Subair and Professor Peter Chin, Associate Professor, Faculty of Education at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada, to UPU on February 28, 2025.

During their visit, Subair and Prof. Chin engaged in discussions with UPU’s leadership and faculty, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Pelucy Natambirweki, on; enhancing, teacher training to improve classroom effectiveness, empowering educators through innovative teaching methodologies and expanding access to education in under-resourced communities.

Their insights provided valuable perspectives on modern educational strategies, and UPU expressed its appreciation for their contributions.

1MT is a global organization dedicated to empowering educators, equipping them with the skills needed to deliver inclusive, gender-responsive education.

Originally launched as a teacher-training initiative, 1MT has evolved into a Global Education Advisory Hub, working with governments, private organizations, and development partners to address education gaps, particularly in underserved regions.

1MT focuses on three key areas which include; creating accessible pathways into the teaching profession through innovative, rewards-based programs, integrating soft skills training with locally-approved curricula to enhance student learning outcomes and fostering lifelong professional development, offering salary incentives and community recognition.

Co-founded by Hakeem Subair and Rizma Butt, 1MT has partnered with renowned global organizations like Girl Rising, HP, and Queen’s University. Now, UPU proudly joins this esteemed network, reinforcing its commitment to teacher training and community development.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Pelucy Natambirweki emphasized UPU’s dedication to this transformative partnership, stating: “UPU remains committed to working closely with 1MT and other partners to drive positive change in education. We look forward to scaling new heights in teacher training, research, and community engagement, ensuring that quality education remains accessible to all.”
