Buliisa: Tragedy struck at the Central Processing Facility (CPF) in Kasinyi Village, Ngwedo Sub County, Buliisa District, when a worker was fatally hit by a falling steel beam from a trailer.
The deceased, identified as Maxwell Atuganyira, 30, was a resident of Kigoya Village in Buliisa Sub County. The incident occurred on Tuesday February, 11, 2025 at around 1 PM.
Atuganyira was employed by Steadfast Crane Services, a company subcontracted by Essar Crane Services Company to offload construction materials at the CPF.
Jai Prakash Gupta, an Instruction Engineer with Essar Crane Services Company, confirmed the incident, stating that Atuganyira was struck by falling metal from a trailer and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to a nearby clinic.
“It is unfortunate that we have lost our staff member, Atuganyira. He was hit by a falling steel beam and, despite efforts to save him, he passed away at our clinic. We extend our condolences to his family,” Gupta stated.
Following the incident, operations at the CPF were temporarily halted as investigations commenced.
“We have suspended all activities at the CPF. Even tomorrow, work will not resume until we determine the cause of the accident,” he added.
Atuganyira’s father, William Muhinga, has appealed for financial support from the company, stressing that his son was the breadwinner for his children and siblings.
“We understand accidents happen, but my son died while on duty. I am pleading with the company to support his family, as he was responsible for their welfare and school fees. I cannot afford to take care of them alone,” Muhinga lamented.
He also urged the contractor to cover funeral expenses and ensure the education of Atuganyira’s children, emphasizing that their future is now uncertain.
“I appeal to the company to handle the burial costs and assist in paying tuition for his children. Without support, their future is at risk,” he further pleaded.
By the time of reporting, Atuganyira’s body was still at the scene. When contacted for a statement, Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that he was in a meeting.
