Busoga North Police clarifies viral story involving police sniffer dog
The attackers disarmed one of the guards, broke into the shop, stole phones, and left behind a rifle at the scene.
Busoga: The territorial police in Busoga North have issued a clarification regarding a viral story circulating on social media, which claims that a police dog traced suspected thieves to the police station reception.
The story, initially reported by a national newspaper, has sparked considerable public attention and mixed reactions.
The incident in question revolves around an aggravated robbery that occurred in 2023. However, the police have confirmed that certain details in the original report were inaccurate. They had previously clarified the facts and are now reiterating these to address any confusion.
According to police records, the robbery took place on February 16, 2023, around 4:00 AM, when two unknown assailants attacked guards at an MTN shop in Kaliro. The attackers disarmed one of the guards, broke into the shop, stole phones, and left behind a rifle at the scene.
The guard, identified as Teko Lomero Moses, immediately reported the incident to Kaliro Police. A team of detectives was dispatched to the crime scene, and a sniffer dog was brought in to assist with the investigation.
The dog followed the scent trail, leading the officers back to the same guard who had reported the crime. At that point, the guard was still at the police station, and the dog rested where he had been sitting.
ASP Michael Kasadha confirmed that both the guard and his colleague were detained for further questioning. The stolen rifle was recovered, and additional suspects were arrested following further investigation. The suspects were later arraigned in court.
The police have urged the public to disregard the misleading story circulating online, stating that it was likely intended to tarnish the reputation of the Uganda Police Force. They reassured the public of their ongoing commitment to serving with integrity and professionalism.
