She condemned the act, describing it sabotage of government programs.

Masindi: Police in Masindi district are holding four court bailiffs and two police officers over allegations of vandalizing a government property.

The bailiffs are from Kabalega-Lega court bailiff and auctioneers and they include Sharon Atulinde, Jimmy Busobozi, Henry Justus Kiiza and another whose name could not be got while the police are Jimmy Okoto and Pauline Kisaakye both attached to attached to Masindi station.

Their arrest Monday evening came after  they tried to enforce a warrant of the arrest that was issued by Masindi high court against a teacher at Kayera Primary school in Kimengo sub county and others for failing to pay courts  costs amounting to over  29.8 million shillings to Jacob Okumu resulting from  a land case they  lost against him.

In execution of the warrant the team visited the school armed with breaking tools including a hoe and hammer which they used to break into the school’s staff houses where they suspected the teacher to be.

This prompted the school head teacher Sally Katwesige to inform the district education officer Monica Kiiza who in turn alerted the deputy Resident District Commissioner Sanon Dhaala and they together stopped the teacher’s arrest.

Monica condemned the act, describing it sabotage of government programs.

Deputy RDC Dhaala also condemned the act saying the Bailiffs did not follow the rightful procedures of enforcing a warrant of arrest including informing the District Police Commander.

He claimed that the police officers who accompanied the court bailiffs were not authorized by the DPC and he threatened to arrest the bailiffs, the police officers and any other person involved in the execution of the warrant of arrest.

Sources that preferred anonymity told this website that the bailiffs and the two police officers had been detained in police custody on orders from a top police officer.

Efforts to get a comment from the DPC on the matter were, however, futile.
