25 graduate at Redearth Education Training Center

The organization also launched a five-year strategic plan aimed at ensuring more children in the country access improved and inclusive education.

Masindi: 25 students have today graduated with certificates in early childhood care and education and certificates in child care at the Redearth Education Training Center in Masindi town, Masindi district.

The certificates are awarded by Makerere University.

This was at the end of a two-day education conference organized by the organization with the aim of promoting learning and teaching for key education stakeholders from the Bunyoro region.

While presiding over the graduation, Vincent Muwonge, who represented Dr. David Kabugo, the director of the of the Makerere University Institute of Teacher Education and Research, hailed the Red Earth Education Center for supporting the government in teacher training and pledging the university’s commitment to partner with the organization in offering diplomas in early childhood education.

Muwonge added that in line with the government teacher policy that requires all teachers to have a minimum education of bachelor’s degree, Makerere University has introduced a degree in early childhood education starting this year’s intake and the program has been designed in a way that will enable them the in-service teachers to  benefit from it.

Speaking during the same ceremony, Eng. Joseph Kikomeko, the commissioner of teacher training and education at the Ministry of Education, noted that teachers play a big role in modeling the children, and he argued for the grandparents to effectively play their role so that they can give the children a firm foundation that will help them succeed academically and in life.

During the same event, Red Earth UK Chapter handed over the management of the organization to the Ugandan leadership and commissioned the organization’s training center located in Northern Cell, Masindi municipality.

The organization also launched a five-year strategic plan aimed at ensuring more children in the country access improved and inclusive education.

Robert Muhangi, the organization’s executive director, revealed that the plan will be implemented through five thematic areas, including teacher professional development, positive practices and attitudes toward early childhood care and education, primary education, and organizational development, among others.
