19 suspected criminals netted in Arua City crackdown
The police officer said once the investigations are complete, their case files will be forwarded to the resident state attorney for legal advice.
Arua: The Arua City police have taken decisive action against criminal gangs that have been causing trouble in the area.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, says that during an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday June, 7, 2024, they arrested 19 individuals suspected of being affiliated with these gangs.
The operation targeted several areas, including Awindiri Hill, Ediofe Trading Center, Prison Cell Oli, and Smash Roundabout. Concerns about burglary, break-and-enter robberies, muggings, and bag-snatching prompted this operation.
Exhibits of opium and breaking implements were recovered during the operation, and all 19 suspects are currently in custody pending screening and further investigations.
Angucia has identified the suspects as Chang Kuiy, Alema Sadam, Ariaka Stephen, Brian Abdul, Twalibu Yahaya, Mungufeni Lvan, Khalid Fahad, Ceasor Fahad, and Ecodri Gerald.
Others are Islam Rashid, Eguma Anthony, Ramathan Mohamed, Ibrahim Noah, Ibrahim Aban, Acidri Majid, Andama Saddam, Sharif Saidi, Adomatia Henry, and Anguyo Ismael.
The police officer said once the investigations are complete, their case files will be forwarded to the resident state attorney for legal advice.
‘’If the case files are sanctioned, the suspects will face charges in court,’’ she said, adding that the police are committed to continuing such operations to combat criminal gangs and eliminate organized crimes from the city.
