Zombo LCV chairperson Oyullu declared unopposed

“The people of Zombo have entrusted me with their mandate because of my commitment to transformative service delivery,” Oyullu emphasized.

Zombo: In a landmark development ahead of the 2026 local government elections, James Oruna Oyullu, the incumbent Local Council V Chairperson, has been declared unopposed for the 2026–2031 term following the official close of the nomination period on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The declaration was made by Mr. Emmanuel Ogwang, the Zombo District Returning Officer, who confirmed that Oyullu was the sole duly nominated candidate for the district chairperson seat.

“For the District Chairperson, the duly nominated candidate is Oyullu Oruna James. I hereby declare him unopposed. Zombo District Local Government, your leader for 2026–2031 is Oyullu Oruna James,” Ogwang announced, sparking celebration among supporters.

Oyullu was officially nominated on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and with no challengers stepping forward by the nomination deadline, he secured the seat uncontested.

In his post-declaration remarks, Oyullu thanked the people of Zombo for their continued trust and laid out a broad agenda for his next term, focusing on infrastructure modernization, education reform, healthcare service expansion and implementation of poverty alleviation programs.

“Today, I proudly inform the constituents of Zombo, West Nile, Greater Nebbi, and the whole of Uganda that I have been declared unopposed as Zombo District Chairperson for 2026–2031. This is a great achievement,” he stated in an interview.

Oyullu’s unopposed victory follows his resounding win in the NRM primaries held on July 24, 2025, where he garnered 24,826 votes, defeating his closest rival, John Orwiny, who polled 10,422 votes. The results reflected widespread support for Oyullu’s leadership at the grassroots level.

“The people of Zombo have entrusted me with their mandate because of my commitment to transformative service delivery,” Oyullu emphasized.

Francis Bolingo, the District Councillor for Athuma Sub-County, praised Oyullu’s development record:

“He deserves this victory. As a councillor under his leadership for the past five years, I’ve witnessed his tangible achievements in road construction and school infrastructure. This is a significant milestone.”

The Electoral Commission designated September 3 to 24, 2025, as the official nomination period for the 2026 Local Government Councils Elections.
