He added that access to these health services will include training and mentoring.
Kitgum: The young population of Uganda, predominantly adolescents and youth, has been encouraged to gain access to health services beyond gender and cultural norms.
This announcement was made by Mr. Thembo Joshua, the Communication and Advocacy Manager at Naguru Teenage Centre, in an interview with our reporter on Friday, June 28, 2024.
According to Joshua, who also serves as the coordinator of this project, the Naguru Teenage Centre, a non-governmental organization and implementing partner of UNFPA, will work to strengthen adolescent and youth empowerment rights to health services in the Acholi and West Nile regions between 2024 and 2027.
Joshua further added that the project’s major focus is to ensure young people access health services in the five districts of Kitgum, Lamwo, Adjumani, Moyo, and Obongi.
He said this is a joint program with CARE International and Marie Stopes, expecting to collaborate with all district government structures, such as education and health departments, on sexual reproductive health.
Mr. Thembo noted that they intend to create an enabling environment that can encourage the young generation to utilize health services beyond gender and cultural norms. He added that access to these health services will include training and mentoring.
