Who was Tamale Mirundi?

Kampala: A renowned political analyst and former presidential press secretary, Tamale Mirundi, died on Tuesday night, August 13, 2024, at Kisubi Hospital off Entebbe Road, according to family members.

His death was confirmed by the Minister for Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Region on X.

“The family of Joseph Tamale Mirundi, Senior Presidential Advisor on Media and former Presidential Press Secretary, is in our thoughts and condolences during this difficult time,” said Minister for Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Region on X.

“His passing is a significant loss, and his contributions to the field of media and public service will be remembered and honored.”

Mirundi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Kisubi Hospital about a month ago. Doctors had for the past few weeks been sucking water from his lungs.

Who was he?

Tamale Mirundi, whose full name is Joseph Tamale Mirundi, was a Ugandan journalist, author, and political analyst. He has made a name for himself through his analysis of political events in Uganda.

Born in Rakai District, Uganda, Tamale Mirundi started his career by dealing in cross-border black market (Magendo) trade years ago at Mutukula.

He gained popularity as a political analyst and was hosted weekly on the radio show “Kimeza” on Radio Simba.

Later, he was appointed by President Museveni as his spokesperson, and he was the presidential adviser on media by the time of his passing.

Tamale Mirundi would appear on the STV political show “Sharp Talk with Tamale Mirundi,” where he shares his insights and opinions on various political matters.

He has also been featured in online videos and discussions related to politics and current affairs, including the ‘’Gwe’ nsonga’’ program, both on Raio4 and Radio7 Masindi.

Throughout his career, he has worked with numerous media outlets, including Radio 4, NBS TV, Top Radio, Beat FM, ABS TV, Impact FM, STV Uganda, Pearl FM, and Metro FM.

Mirundi, the son of Molly Namatovu and Yowana Mirundi, attended Lubiri Secondary School. Tamale was holding a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and a master’s degree in communication.

As a former Presidential Press Secretary and Presidential Media Advisor, Tamale Mirundi continued to be a prominent figure in Ugandan politics.

His candid and often controversial statements contributed to his reputation as an outspoken commentator.
