West Nile Queen urges Alur youth to embrace and promote their heritage

Many, she pointed out, default to simply mentioning Paidha, which, while notable, is not the only remarkable place in Zombo.

Nebbi: The Queen of West Nile, Ms. Patricia Jane Alobo, has passionately called on the Alur youth to take pride in their roots and use available resources and technology to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of their homeland.

Speaking out against a growing trend of Alur people distancing themselves from their places of origin, Alobo emphasized the importance of recognizing and promoting every corner of the region.

She criticized educated individuals, particularly those from the Alur community, who shy away from acknowledging their specific villages when in cities like Kampala.

Many, she pointed out, default to simply mentioning Paidha, which, while notable, is not the only remarkable place in Zombo.

Alobo urged youths to proudly highlight other significant areas, such as Zeu, Alangi, Abanga, Kaya, Nyapea, Akaa, Warr, Padea, Adhingi, Ajei, and Pakadha, stressing that each has its own rich history and charm that deserve recognition.

This plea for a mindset shift comes after a growing conversation among Alur elders who express concerns over this trend of disowning one’s roots.

Alobo echoed their sentiments, stating that the elders are rightfully unhappy with this phenomenon, calling for a concerted effort to honor and celebrate all the villages of the Alur community.

Alobo’s comments come shortly after she was crowned Queen of West Nile, following her victory in Pakwach Town Council. Alongside her new royal duties, she is working toward completing her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in Finance, from Makerere University Business School.

In a related note, last year, His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Ularker III, King of Alur, commended his subjects in Greater Entebbe for maintaining unity and being exemplary ambassadors of the Alur Kingdom.

The Queen’s statement reflects a broader call for unity and recognition of cultural heritage within the Alur community, with a clear message: this year, let’s elevate and honor every village in West Nile.
