Kigezi: Vice President Retired Major Jessica Alupo has called upon the people of Kigezi to rally behind President Yoweri Museveni, who is set to run as a candidate in the upcoming 2026 presidential elections.

Vice President Alupo said this during the centenary celebration of Rushoroza Cathedral parish at Rushoroza grounds, where she represented President Museveni as the chief guest.

Addressing Christians, VP Alupo urged the nation to remain calm and assured them that President Museveni’s potential candidacy for the upcoming elections should not be a cause for concern.

In her speech, VP Alupo disclosed that she has already mobilized the Eastern region, encouraging them to stay composed and confident that Gen. Yoweri Museveni will return in 2026.

‘’I have already mobilized the Eastern region; I’m encouraging you to stay composed and confident that Gen. Yoweri Museveni will return in 2026,’’ he assured them.

President Museveni, who refrained from commenting on the matter during his recent end-of-year meeting with journalists at State House Entebbe, said that we would talk about that one at the right time.

Kabale LC5 chairman Nelson Nshangabasheija stated last year during the Women’s Day celebrations that Kabale and the entire Kigezi region are backing Gen. Muhoozi for president in the 2026 elections on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.

President Museveni personally contributed UGX 50 million towards the development of the parish.

Dignitaries present at the event included Henry Musasizi, State Minister for Finance and General Duties, the Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, MP for Kabale Municipality Nicholas Kamara, Catherine Ndamira, Woman MP for Kabale District, Alex Niyonsaba Sseruganda, MP for Bufumbira South, and Wilfred Niwagaba, MP for Ndorwa East, among others.
