Kampala: The Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo paid tribute to former MP Simon Peter Aleper, who died in a car crash along the Iganga-Tirinyi highway on Tuesday this week.
Alupo said the Karamoja Subregion and the country at large have lost a young and vibrant political leader.
“The country has lost a community mobilizer. An agent of the NRM’s socio-economic transformation agenda who has spearheaded peace and security in the Karamoja subregion,” she eulogized.
Alupo made the remarks during a special Parliament session in honor of his service to humanity and the country.
The vice president said Aleper will be dearly missed by not only his family and friends but the country at large.
On behalf of the Office of the Vice President and on her own behalf, Alupo extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family, the people of Karamoja, the National Resistance Movement, and the country at large.
Aleper was the former Moroto Municipality Member of Parliament. He was also the Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the Karamoja region and a member of the Central Executive Committee.
On Wednesday, President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the national chairman of the NRM, accorded the late Aleper an official burial for his service to the country and the party.
