VIDEO: Three cheat death as trailer plunges into River Waaki, catches fire

After plaguing into the river, the vehicle caught fire but residents rushed to retrieve the victims.

Buliisa: Three people have survived death after the trailer they were travelling in plunged into River Waaki.

The river situated along Hoima-Buliisa-Wanseko road is located in Kapapi village Kigrobya County in Hoima district, which borders Hoima and Buliisa District.

The accident happened on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at around 8 a.m. when the driver of the box body trailer registration number UAD 834Q that was carrying tins of Plascon paints coming from Hoima side to Buliisa District plagued into River Waaki.

The victims are identified as Brian Abigaba, a trailer driver, and his unidentified tan man and unidentified lady, who survived death with deep cuts on the body after being retrieved from the waters of River Waaki by residents who were nearby at the accident time.

After plunging into the river, the vehicle caught fire but residents rushed to retrieve the victims.

According to eyewitnesses who were washing their motorcycles at the riverside, the driver of the box body trailer vehicle was at a very high speed and thus failed to negotiate the corner at the bridge.

‘’He failed to negotiate the corner thus plagued the trailer into the river because he was at a terrible speed.’’

Patrick Okumu Parish councilor Kihungya Parish says the victims were rushed to Hoima regional referral hospital for medication.

Police rushed to the scene but wouldn’t comment on the incident by press time.
