URA extends motorcycle number plate registration exercise in West Nile

This initiative was aimed at increasing compliance and reducing the number of unregistered motorcycles on the roads.

Arua: The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced the extension of the motorcycle number plate registration promotion in West Nile until June 30, 2025.

This decision was communicated by Abel Kagumiire, Commissioner for Executive Operations, who represented Commissioner General John Musinguzi at a taxpayer feedback integrity forum held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Tropical Suits Hotel in Arua City.

The extension follows a request from the leadership of the Arua City Boda Boda Association, which sought more time for its members to register their motorcycles before stricter enforcement begins next year.

Instead of the requested deadline, URA has extended the registration period to the end of the financial year.

Swadick Angupale, Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Arua, welcomed the extension, pledging the city leadership’s full support to ensure that boda boda riders take advantage of this opportunity to register their unnumbered motorcycles.

Moses Obeta, Chairperson of the Business Community in Arua, also expressed his approval of the extension, encouraging all motorcycle owners to utilize this period for registration to minimize conflicts with enforcement teams.

The URA’s previous promotion successfully raised 2.7 billion shillings over nine months, concluding in September, and resulted in the registration of 4,386 motorcycles in the West Nile region.

This initiative was aimed at increasing compliance and reducing the number of unregistered motorcycles on the roads.
