Masindi: The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming its training schools into centers of excellence for the African continent by improving infrastructure and enhancing training programs.
This was revealed by Brigadier General Michael Kabango, the Chief of Staff of UPDF Land Forces, while representing the Chief of Defence Forces at a pass-out ceremony for 227 trainees who completed a five-month and three-week regimental police training course at Masindi Military Training School on Friday.
Brigadier Kabango’s remarks came in response to a request by Col Amon Kagina, the Commandant of the school, who appealed for the construction of more infrastructure and the provision of adequate training aids to enhance the school’s capacity.
“UPDF training schools are not only serving Uganda but the entire continent. The army leadership is working hard to secure resources to develop all its training institutions and equip them with modern training software and personnel,” Kabango stated.
Brigadier Kabango urged the graduates to apply the skills they acquired to maintain discipline within the UPDF. He also emphasized the importance of staying healthy and continuously training to advance their careers.
Meanwhile, Col Kagina revealed that 262 trainees initially enrolled in the course, but four dropped out, 10 were dismissed on various grounds, 13 were discontinued due to indiscipline, and 8 failed the course.
