Umukuka III to launch Elgon Creative Industry in Mbale

Mbale: His Highness Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba people, Jude Mike Mudoma, will officially launch the Elgon Creative Industry on Thursday, 5th September 2025, at the renowned Mbale City Museum.
The initiative runs under the patronage of the Bugisu Cultural Institution and aims to promote culture, creativity, and regional unity.
The launch marks the beginning of the much-anticipated Elgon Festivals, which will run from 5th to 8th September, featuring a series of cultural and entertainment activities, according to Hon. Priscilla Khaitsa, Minister in the Bugisu Cultural Institution and lead promoter of the event.
“This festival is more than just entertainment; it is a platform to unite communities, promote our heritage, and nurture the creative industry within Bugisu and beyond,” said Hon. Khaitsa.
The festival will attract performers and cultural showcases from neighboring communities and districts, including Bugwere, Teso, Bunyole, and even across the border from Kenya.
Among the key highlights are grand cultural parade, The premiere of “Khuselela”, a Lumasaba movie centered on marriage traditions, live performances by veteran local musicians, cultural exhibitions and displays and a guided cultural tourism tour across key sites in the Bugisu region on 7th September.
Steven Masiga, spokesperson for the Bugisu Cultural Institution, praised the launch of the creative industry, noting its potential to boost cultural pride and regional cooperation.
“As a cultural institution, we warmly welcome our brothers and sisters from neighboring districts. Come and showcase your heritage. Let us celebrate our culture within the confines of the law,” Masiga said, appealing for massive public participation.
The event is supported by the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Capital FM, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, and other partners committed to promoting culture and tourism.
Adding a traditional touch to the event, Hon. Kutoi, Minister for Culture in the cultural institution, assured attendees that the spiritual oracles have blessed the occasion and predicted good weather throughout the festival.
