Mbale: His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Umukuka III of the Bamasaba people, will attend the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States, in January 2025.
This announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Mr. Steven Masiga, during a press briefing at the cultural offices.
According to Mr. Masiga, the Umukuka III will be representing all African kings at the event. The cultural leader is also expected to address the United Nations Organizations (UNO) and UNESCO, where he will advocate for the preservation of cultural sites in the Bamasaba Kingdom.
The Bamasaba Cultural Institution, under the umbrella organization Inzuyamasaba, represents a kingdom that spans across several districts in Uganda and Kenya. These include Bududa, Namisindwa, Mbale City, Sironko, Bulambuli, Manafwa, and Bungoma County in Kenya, as well as Trans-Nzoia or Kitale. Additionally, the kingdom’s subjects extend into neighboring regions like Teso and Samia.
Mr. Masiga emphasized that the Bamasaba cultural leader was officially gazetted last year in accordance with Uganda’s Cultural Leaders Act of 2011, the Constitution of Uganda (Article 246), the Local Government Act, and the National Cultural Policy of 2019. The Bamasaba people, both in Uganda and Kenya, as well as the diaspora, are estimated to number over 15 million people.
Following the inauguration, the Umukuka III will visit prominent figures in the United States, including Professor Florence Wakoko of Columbus State University and Dr. Stephen Mungoma, among others.
