Umukuka III appeals for more relief for Bulambuli landslides survivors
This includes ensuring that the affected communities are given adequate housing, food, and healthcare.
Bulambuli: His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, the Umukuka III, has called on well-wishers, organizations, and individuals to extend more support to the survivors of the devastating landslides in Bulambuli.
The community has already received some aid, but the needs of those affected remain immense.
The Inzuyamasaba has been actively involved in coordinating relief efforts, with various donors stepping forward to assist.
According to the Inzuyamasaba spokesperson, Mr. Steven Masiga, the Chinese community has contributed relief items worth 100 million shillings, which were delivered on Sunday.
Additionally, well-wishers from Wales donated 8 million shillings, and Cure Mbale contributed 500,000 shillings specifically for the purchase of sanitary pads for young girls affected by the disaster.
However, the scale of the disaster means that much more support is needed. In light of this, Mr. Masiga has urged other organizations and individuals to channel their assistance through Inzuyamasaba, which is acting as the central distribution unit under the guidance of public authorities.
The Umukuka III and Inzuyamasaba now appeal to the following groups for additional assistance. The leadership of the Kenyan Bamasaba, the Somali community in Mbale, and the Indian community in Mbale have been called upon to lend their support.
The appeal includes Commissioner Barnabas Rubanza of the Uganda Police, Mr. Mubarak of the Mbale Shopping Centre, Mr. Richard Mataya of Abrah Shopping Centre, and Justices Cheberion Bariashaki and Mutonyi.
Major companies such as MTN Uganda, Nile Breweries, and factories in Tororo that deal in cement and Coca-Cola are urged to contribute, as well as banks like Stanbic and Centenary Bank.
The needs of the affected families are urgent, with thousands of people displaced, including many persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, and the elderly, all of whom are in dire need of assistance.
In addition to relief aid, the Umukuka III has called on the Ugandan government to take immediate action to properly resettle the thousands of people displaced by the landslides in the Bugisu region.
This includes ensuring that the affected communities are given adequate housing, food, and healthcare.
The Umukuka III, seen in the attached photo, is pictured flagging off the relief items that were recently delivered to Bulambuli’s landslide survivors.
The people of Bulambuli continue to face immense challenges as they recover from the devastating landslides.
As the disaster response continues, further support is essential. Those interested in donating or contributing can do so by reaching out through the official channels of the Inzuyamasaba.
