Masindi: The Ubuntu family, led by Eng. Vincent Tumwesige, donated items to the inmates at Masindi government prison in Masindi district on Friday.
The items donated include 12 boxes of soap, 2 heavy-duty powdered soaps, toothpaste, 4 boxes of sanitary pads, and 11 boxes of lazar blades.
The items donated are worth 620,000 shillings.
Tumwesige said that they decided to donate the items to the inmates as a way of commemorating Liberation Day, noting that the money to purchase the items was raised by different members of the Ubuntu family.
‘’We raised the money through the Ubuntu family and well-wishers; we decided to commemorate Liberation Day by sharing with colleagues the little we have,’’ he said.
He disclosed that, though it is their first time to donate such items to the inmates, it will be a routine event that will be done in commemoration of other national and international celebrations.
The prison authorities who received the items commended Ubuntu for the donation and asked other stakeholders to support them, asserting that they will implement what they already have.
‘’Thank you so much for the donation; it will supplement what we have in stock, and we pray you continue supporting us.’’
While addressing the inmate and gang leadership after the donation, Tumwesige encouraged them to be humble, patient, obedient, and desist from illicit characters that may land them in trouble.
‘’Kindly deliver this message to your colleagues; be humble, patient, obedient, and desist from illicit characters that may land you in trouble; there is life after prison,’’ he added.
He tipped the inmates to make good use of the plea bargain and desist from revenge after serving their sentence, but transform and engage themselves in productive activities to improve their household income.
‘’Some of you are here innocently; please don’t take revenge, but engage yourselves in productive activities when you finish serving your sentence.’’
The inmates commended the Ubuntu family for their support and advice, pledging to share the same message with other inmates.
