Tycoon Kirasha laid to rest amid tears
Kirasha, who began business at the tender age of 14, began selling coffee, then ventured into produce and transportation.
Rukiga: The body of the fallen businessman Jonathan Kirasha the man who championed the coffee trade in Kigezi and Ankole was laid to rest on Thursday at his ancestral home in Kandago Nyamishenyi Parish, Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.
Jonathan Kirasha passed away on February 20, 2024, at midday at Platinum Hospital in Kampala after failing to get immediate dialysis.
Kirasha, who began business at the tender age of 14, began selling coffee, then ventured into produce and transportation.
The widows Pauline Kemirembe Kirasha and Anna Turyahikayo Kirasha, in their eulogies, described Kirasha as having a loving and caring husband.
Children led by Caroline Tayebwa The daughter said that her father developed an illness seven years ago that required him to go for dialysis three times a week every time he got complications. One year later, he developed a mini stroke.
Tayebwa says that during the first lockdown, after he developed complications with his kidney, he was then put on dialysis five times, but later three times.
Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere, the Rukiga LC5 boss, described him as a pillar of economic development who championed trade not only in Rukiga but the nation, besides mentoring many other people like the late Tycoon Apollo Nyegamahe.
Roland Bish Ndyomugyeyi, the Rukiga County Member of Parliament, described Kirasha as a great icon and pillar of business. He was a humble super-advisor businessman in Kigezi who inspired and empowered other businessmen to see them grow.
He said that Kirasha leaves an unpalled legacy as an astute businessman and has been a strong pillar of Kigezi and Uganda in general.
Kirasha was born in Kandago village, Nyamishenyi Parish, Rukiga District, on March 30th, 1947.
He is survived by two widows, Pauline Kemirembe Kirasha and Anna Turyahikayo Kirasha, 15 children, 35 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
