Two suspects remanded over Norwegian National’s murder in Jinja
When interrogated, Nabatanzi and Kigozi alleged that Hausvik had committed suicide during the night of March 9–10 at his rented house in Walukuba West, Block C, Maternity Cell, Jinja Southern Division.

Jinja: The Jinja Grade One Magistrate, Yafesi Ochieng has remanded Sheilah Nabatanzi and Ali Kigozi, who are suspected to be behind the murder of a Norwegian national in Walukuba, Jinja City earlier in March. Meanwhile, another suspect remains on the run.
On Monday, March 10, a medical team from Mivule Crescent Medical Center along Radio Road in Jinja City alerted the police after receiving the lifeless body of 39-year-old Norwegian national Robert Hausvik, commonly known as “Katongole”.
The body was brought in by his girlfriend, Sheilah Nabatanzi, and friend, Ali Kigozi, who claimed they were seeking medical attention for him. However, the medical team confirmed he was already dead and immediately reported the case to CPS Jinja Central.
Following the report, SSP Dr. Monday Johnson Agaba, the Regional CID Officer, directed senior homicide detectives and a scene-of-crime officer team, led by the OC CID of CPS Jinja Central, to investigate the matter.
Upon arrival at the medical facility, police found the body covered with green bedsheets and noticed an injury on the toes of his right leg. Initially, the body was taken to Mulago Nationa Referral Hospital mortuary before being transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital the following day for a postmortem examination.
When interrogated, Nabatanzi and Kigozi alleged that Hausvik had committed suicide during the night of March 9–10 at his rented house in Walukuba West, Block C, Maternity Cell, Jinja Southern Division.
However, police investigations raised doubts about this claim. Hausvik, who lived with Nabatanzi, shared the two-bedroom residence with Kigozi and his girlfriend, Zam Zam, who later fled and is now wanted by police.
Reports indicate that on Sunday, March 9, Hausvik and Nabatanzi were at Bourbon Bar and Lounge in Jinja City, where they had a heated argument. Nabatanzi reportedly left the bar alone, returning home, while Hausvik stayed behind.
Later that night, Hausvik returned home, and the quarrel resumed until Nabatanzi went to bed, leaving him in the sitting room. In the early morning hours, Kigozi allegedly found Hausvik hanging by his trousers.
Nabatanzi and Kigozi then transported the body to a nearby clinic before taking it to Mivule Crescent Medical Center.
Preliminary investigations by SP James Mubi suggested a questionable suicide, prompting authorities to launch a thorough, prosecution-guided investigation. The body was transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where forensic pathologists, AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga and Dr. Moses Ambayo, conducted a postmortem examination.
The postmortem report confirmed that Hausvik was murdered by strangulation, contradicting the suspects’ suicide claim.
Following these findings, the Resident Senior State Attorney (RSSA) sanctioned the case file. On Friday, March 21, the two suspects appeared before the Jinja Magistrates’ Court, where they were remanded to Kirinya Prison until March 31 for a case mention.
Dr. Monday Johnson Agaba cautioned couples and the general public against disguising homicides as suicides, emphasizing that forensic investigations can easily distinguish the two.
Meanwhile, SP James Mubi stated that the motive behind the murder remains under investigation, and authorities are actively searching for Kigozi’s girlfriend, Zam Zam, who is currently on the run.
The public is urged to report any information regarding her whereabouts to the police.
