He urged all road users to exercise caution, respect traffic regulations, and be mindful of their safety to avoid further accidents.
Arua: A tragic road accident occurred on 23rd December 2024 at around 4:09 PM in Yivu village, Ombavu Parish, Arivu Subcounty, Arua District, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
A blue Mercedes-Benz lorry, registered UBH 753H, was driven by Mr. Kakoza Khalid, a 34-year-old resident of Kasubi.
The lorry collided with a numberless red Senke motorcycle, ridden by Mr. Adromati, approximately 30 years old, with Mr. Dratu, 32 years old, as a passenger. Both individuals were from Ondivu village, Olupi Parish.
The two men on the motorcycle tragically lost their lives at the scene. Their bodies have been transported to Arua City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
According to Collins Asea, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle attempted to overtake the lorry from the left side.
The motorcycle then lost control and slid under the lorry, leading to the rear tyre of the lorry running over both the motorcycle and its riders.
The lorry driver, Mr. Khalid, stopped at a distance after the collision, but was reportedly assaulted by a group of bystanders. He was later rescued by the police and is currently cooperating with the investigation.
Asea stated that the accident was largely caused by reckless riding on the part of the motorcycle operator, who attempted to overtake in a dangerous manner.
He urged all road users to exercise caution, respect traffic regulations, and be mindful of their safety to avoid further accidents.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police have promised to provide further updates as more details emerge.
