Adjumani: Two people were killed while one was injured in a fresh attack between the Acholi and Madi communities living in contested Apaa land.

The fresh attack started on Sunday evening when it was alleged that 13 men from the Madi ethnic groups armed with machetes, arrows, and bows stormed Kal Acut village in Iterikwa sub-county Adjumani district.

The attackers entered the home of one Acholi only identified as Akekwa, arrested and undressed him, and tied him up on the trees before setting ablaze 16 huts belonging to the Acholi community.

The assailants also destroyed properties and shot one person who is yet to be identified before fleeing the scene.

However, on Monday morning, the Acholi community retaliated by burning down 19 huts, killing two men identified as Drani and Taku, all residents of Eloku Village.

Capt. Kato Ahmad Hassan, the fourth infantry division’s army spokesperson, confirmed the attack, saying UPDF has beefed up security in the area.

The spokesperson noted that the two dead bodies were handed over to police and are currently being kept in Acholi, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

Kato appealed to the communities to refrain from violence and to cooperate with the security in the area in providing information that may lead to the arrest of the people who masterminded that attack.
