Two hospitalized after mob beating over alleged theft in Hoima

The cows are being kept at the police post, and authorities are asking anyone with missing animals to come forward with proper documentation.

Hoima: Two men are hospitalized at Kigorobya Health Center IV in Hoima District after being severely beaten by a mob on accusations of stealing a motor worth 20 million Ugandan shillings.

The suspects allegedly broke into a maize store and stole the motor. Upon being caught, they were attacked by the mob.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspects are under police surveillance at the health center. Once they recover, they will face charges of store breaking and theft.

Hakiza also provided updates on ongoing police operations across the region aimed at curbing theft, particularly during the festive season.

In Kakumiro District, over 100 suspects were arrested, with 71 of them taken to court. In Kagadi District, 17 suspects were arrested, and 15 individuals were detained in Kigorobya Town Council.

Additionally, police in Kagadi District are holding two suspected stolen cows at Mpefu Police Post. The animals were discovered after police acted on intelligence, but the suspects managed to escape.
