Two suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed, are currently in custody at CPS Buwenge to assist in further investigations.
Jinja: A daring robbery attempt at Pride Microfinance Bank’s Buwenge branch was thwarted early Friday morning, November 22, 2024, thanks to the swift intervention of Buwenge police.
The robbers, who had gained entry by cutting a hole in the roof, failed to access the safe deposit boxes or steal two guns from private security guards.
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM when the suspects disabled the building’s CCTV system and made away with two laptops and DVR hard drives controlling the surveillance.
However, their plans were interrupted by a coordinated police response led by SP Morris Oyee, the District Police Commander (DPC) for Buwenge Central Police Station.
Two guns belonging to Saracen Uganda Limited security guards were recovered, and the room containing the safe deposit boxes remained untouched, sparing millions of shillings in potential losses.
Two suspects, whose identities remain undisclosed, are currently in custody at CPS Buwenge to assist in further investigations.
SP James Mubi, while confirming the incident, emphasized the importance of installing rooftop sensors for added security. He urged establishments handling cash or sensitive documents, such as factories, banks, and hotels, to enhance their security systems to deter such crimes.
The timely response by law enforcement, including the use of a police dog, was instrumental in preventing the robbery and securing the property. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
