Traditional herbalist arrested in attempted child abduction in Jinja
Their alleged motive, according to initial investigations, was to abduct the child for ritual sacrifice.
Jinja: A 42-year-old traditional herbalist, Faziru Adam Mukulu, a resident of Kamigo, Buyengo Town Council, in Jinja District, was apprehended on November 28, 2024, for allegedly attempting to abduct a four-year-old girl in Namulesa, Jinja City.
The arrest occurred following a report by vigilant residents, while Mukulu’s accomplice managed to flee and remains at large.
The suspects, traveling on a motorcycle with registration number UFT 448M, reportedly tried to lure the young girl using food items such as chapati and biscuits at Naluesa Trading Centre along the Jinja-Kamuli road.
Their alleged motive, according to initial investigations, was to abduct the child for ritual sacrifice.
Authorities recovered the following items from the suspects’ bags: tobacco pipes, dead human bones, local herbs, sweets and chapati.
Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, SP James Mubi, confirmed the arrest and the impounding of the motorcycle used in the crime. Efforts are underway to locate the second suspect.
SP Mubi praised the residents of Namulesa for their vigilance, emphasizing the importance of community awareness during the festive season. He also highlighted the increasing danger posed by criminal groups targeting children for abduction, abuse, and violence.
The police urged parents and guardians to remain extra vigilant to protect their children, particularly during the festive period when risks are heightened.
SP Mubi reiterated the force’s commitment to conducting sensitization campaigns aimed at eradicating violence against women, girls, and children.
